The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain

And now for something completely different

I don't like so much to write about politics. It feels a bit dirty, and it gets old very fast. In the long run, it is not so important as it seems at first. In general, I prefer to discuss deeper cultural, historical and social issues, or really, just to write about traveling. I would jot down and publish only travel observations if I could, even if no one read them. However, I do not always have the chance to travel.

Right now, however, I am in Spain, and will remain here for two weeks, and later I will go on to Finland, so it might be a good time to take some photographs and make some observations that might or might not be of interest to my five or six readers.

Spain is an interesting country, and, in many ways, closer to me than Northern European countries, which always feel a bit alien to me. My family origins are mainly Spanish (Catalan) and Italian, so I feel at home here. We talk about “Spain", but really were I am is Catalonia, which, even if it is not (yet?) a separate country, has its own culture and language making it pretty different from other regions such as, say, Andalusia. No flamenco here, they prefer the sardana.

Rain? In the plain? Not really. Weather is always sunny, with a temperature between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius, and will continue to remain good or better for the rest of the week.
